Online Reading Tutoring with Maria Feist

How does online reading tutoring work?

After our initial consultation,  I conduct a Free Assessment (about a $200 value if assessed privately) to determine what reading instruction your Reader needs. From the Free Assessment, I get the information that I need to create an instructional plan specifically for your Reader. I present this information to you in a report. I will also give you an approximate amount of time that we would need to work together.  We set up a weekly schedule and your Reader attends online reading tutoring on Zoom. Part of my work with your Reader is assessing as she or he works in each session, however, I will conduct a formal re-assessment around weeks 11-12 so we can see the progress your Reader has made!

I will teach your Reader the specific skills and strategies that he or she needs for continued growth in reading. I do not work on homework or work from school with Readers during their tutoring sessions as I make specific lesson plans to ensure that your Reader is progressing toward their reading goals.

How many tutoring sessions are needed?

Using the information that I gather from the Free Assessment, we can decide on an approximate number of sessions needed:

*For K-2nd grade students, I recommend sessions of 30 minutes 2 times a week.

*For 3-6th grade students, I recommend sessions of 40-60 minutes 2 times a week.

The length of sessions depends on factors such as the Reader's attention span, ADHD, and your family's schedule. As students get older, reading materials get longer. In addition to learning skills, Readers must have time to practice reading in each session.

To give you an idea of how many weeks it might take~ a Reader that is reading a grade level below where they should be could take 10-12 weeks of 2 sessions weekly. Variables such as attendance, an identified learning disability, and focus during sessions all affect how quickly a Reader will make progress.

Who do you work with?

I work with elementary students in Kindergarten-6th grade~ regular education, English language learners, Gifted education students, Home school students, students with IEPs~ anyone who wants to close the gap in reading or receive enrichment in reading because they love to read so much!

Will you work with my English as a Second Language (ESL) child?

Yes! For 14 years I had the privilege of working specifically with ESL students at every level of English language development, from being a non-English speaker to getting ready to exit from the ESL program. We will work on listening, speaking, reading, and writing in English. Rather than conducting a reading assessment as I do for online reading tutoring, we will work to determine your student's English language proficiency level. If your student is in an American school and has been screened for ESL, he or she will have an English language proficiency level from the school screening. You may have received a copy of the assessment results. If so, those results will be helpful for my instruction with your child. If you do not have an idea of your student's English language proficiency level, I can help to determine their level. I will use their level to create specific lesson plans for your student.

What are your online reading tutoring rates?

My online reading and ESL tutoring rates are $30 for a 30 minute session, $60 for a 60 minute session.

Included with your tuition is a member subscription to a digital library of books and literacy activities at your Reader's reading level.

Where do we get the Zoom link from?

Once we have created a schedule for your Reader and your sessions have been paid for, you will receive the Zoom link to begin our tutoring sessions.

Do you only tutor online?

Yes, I only tutor online.
